2024 Fiscal Year Summary

A Word From Dean Triantis

The enduring strength of Stanford Law School is based to a significant degree on the alumni and friends who make SLS a philanthropic priority in their lives. I continue to be inspired by the extraordinary students who matriculate each year and our colleagues who lead and innovate in their teaching and research. I hope you find equally inspiring the stories of impact described in this report, that were made possible by your philanthropic support.

Thank you.

Areas of Impact in 2023-24

Philanthropic support reaches all corners of Stanford Law School. Here are a few spotlights on SLS projects in 2023-24 that benefited from your support.

The Flywheel Fund: Providing SLS students with an alternative way to finance their legal education, the Flywheel Fund aims to alleviate debt pressure and provide students the flexibility to pursue alternative careers more quickly after graduation. This year saw the first cohort of students supported by the pilot fund.

Scholarships: Nearly 80% of SLS students receive financial aid. Said one student this year: "I genuinely could not have attended law school without the financial aid I receive. Thank you for providing me with this invaluable opportunity."

Levin Center for Public Service and Public Interest Law: Donor support makes possible the Center's pro bono projects, including break trips; postgraduate public interest and public service fellowships for students and recent alumni; and events like the Fall Public Service Awards reception and summer alumni receptions.

Mills Legal Clinic: Gifts to the Clinic support students as they draft briefs supporting immigrants seeking asylum, children and youth with special education needs, clients with cases before the U.S. Supreme Court, and others. One student reports: "Participating in a clinic was hands down the best experience I had during law school."

Law and Policy Labs: In 17 labs across disciplines and subjects this year, SLS students have engaged in experiential learning, advancing progress in policy and research on topics like access to justice, climate change, child welfare, and veterans’ affairs. Such breadth and scope of experiences could not be possible without donor support.

Faculty support: SLS students enjoy a 4:1 student to faculty ratio. The 64 tenured and tenure-track faculty published 201 news articles, journals, blog posts, law review articles, books, book reviews, or newsletters in FY24. “Stanford Law’s commitment to fostering robust intellectual engagement and supporting pioneering research has always been so impressive to me. I cannot imagine a better place to research, learn, and teach," says new faculty member Mila Sohoni.

With mentors of the broadest international perspective, the most friendly and supportive professors, the kindest administrative team, and peers with the greatest leadership qualities, I am poised to pursue my goal of becoming a leading scholar in comparative law and human rights law, continuing to promote the rights of the most vulnerable groups and bridging the deepest divides through research, legislative advocacy, and impactful litigation.Hongyun Yu, JD '26
We are delighted to support SLS in any ways we can. Were it not for the goodness and generosity of others I could not have attended, so I view giving back as a solemn duty. I am proud of the role SLS has played in my life and my continuing support of the school.
